Did you know that Al Pacino moved to Miami and hung out with drug dealers to research the role of Tony Montana?  What dedication!  Yet despite Al’s devotion and perfecto performance, he didn’t even get an Oscar nod that year.  It is refreshing to know, however, that Tom Conti (for a movie called Reuben, Reuben) did.  No, I haven’t heard of him or the movie either.  Did you also know that Brian DePalma’s 1983 Scarface is a remake of Howard Hughes’ 1932 Scarface?  And that the main character in Hughes’ version (Antonio “Tony” Camonte) does in fact have an incestuous relationship with his sister, although—sorry to disappoint the perverts— they don’t actually show it on screen.  Anyway, Pacino’s “Tony” has become an icon of American film culture and has inspired gangsters and rap artists everywhere.  Nobody does it better than Pacino!
